Randomness from a Friday Afternoon

I have about 20 minutes to kill before heading out to go to practice, so i though i would add a bit on random happenings.

I just finished my second week of class, and even though i am only taking two classes, i am as bad a procrastinator as i was in under grad (although i'm not entirely sure why i thought that would change just because i changed schools). My Book Pub class, is a little dry right now, but i think i am really going to get a feel for the industry (which is the point). Also, i am really excited to getting working on my manuscript...as part of the class, everyone got an actual manuscript that was published (although we have the version that was submitted, not the polished version), and over the course of the term, we are going to go through all the steps of publishing the manuscript. Mine is a novel called Russian Requiem. It looks really interesting and the writing is right up my alley (really liquidy, and almost poetic). However, as i'm not so much up on my modern Russian history, Ian, you may be getting a few confused emails from me.

My other class is a copyediting class which is actually a lot of fun (showing the true depth of my geekiness). The whole four hours is basically the whole class editing a piece on our own, and then coming together to argue about why the way we edited is the best. Kate, think all the conversations you and I had about words and you have the tenor of the class (oh, and i adore my professor...she is laid back, quick to laugh, but also really knowledgable...oh, and Topher Grace's mom on "That Seventies Show," she has that laugh...its great!).

Work is work...although i am finally feeling like i know what i'm supposed to be doing so it is much less stressful. My girls had their first game this week, and sadly they lost 4-1, but unlike the score, the game was incredibly close and gave me hope that we are going to have a really good season. Also, it was so fun for me to see how excited all the girls were to play.

On a really random note, i watched the pilot of Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip, and i'm excited. The show feels like Sorkin took the best of Sports Night and the West Wing, and smushed them together. At least from the first show, the casting seems perfect, and i'm interested to see how the show will progress. If you missed the pilot i highly suggest tuning in next week.

And as it is about time for me to take off, i promise more randomness later.

As you have brought up Sorkin, I must reply :) I too am excited about Studio 60, although Sorkin does tend to like to recycle the same story lines but put them with different characters and slightly different twists--I'm thinking a case of ADD on par with Brian here. My only complaint about the show is the way its shot--it looks too washed out, whereas previously, Sorkin seemed to shoot in richer colors. It seems like the network handed him notes about how to get the 18-25 crowd to watch. But Matthew Perry remarking how he's on Vicodin--bravo!

Sigh...no A.S. for me... that's Aaron Sorkin, not Aaron Spelling, for any of you who may have been confused (rest his soul).

But now, a matter of GRAVE importance: Sarah you (and/or Cadi and/or Brian and/or Ian) MUST keep me updated on Gilmore Girls!! I hear it's premiering this week, and though nobody thinks the show is as good anymore, we all know that this'll be the last year, and we have to know how it ends! So, this is another favor I'm asking of y'all. If you want reports on the newest Tarkan song or the scores of Galatasaray games, do let me know. Otherwise, this'll be a one-way street of information - sorry. Thanks!
